The story
Gadwal's weaving communities built a distinctive ceremonial saree around the practical comfort of cotton and the splendour of silk. The tradition is closely associated with the Gadwal region and temple-inspired design.
How it is made
The cotton body and silk border may be woven separately and joined through a secure interlocking technique, while the pallu is attached using a traditional join. Skilled construction creates contrast without sacrificing strength.
Materials and character
A fine cotton body with silk border and pallu is classic, although all-silk and contemporary variations also exist. Zari quality strongly affects price.
