The story
The modern Maheshwari tradition is closely linked with Maheshwar and the patronage of Ahilyabai Holkar. Local weaving grew into a refined saree vocabulary shaped by the town's fort, ghats and Narmada landscape.
How it is made
Cotton and silk yarns are woven into a light fabric, often with striped or checked bodies. Distinctive borders may be designed to look attractive on both faces, supporting the tradition of the reversible bugdi edge.

Cotton, silk and silk-cotton combinations create a crisp but breathable handle, often finished with zari or coloured borders.
