The story
Dharmavaram developed into a prominent silk-weaving centre serving South Indian wedding and festive markets. Its sarees are recognised for expansive borders and pallus that give the textile a dramatic ceremonial presence.
How it is made
Silk yarns are prepared and woven with contrasting borders, often using jacquard or dobby mechanisms for detailed zari motifs. Labour increases as motif density and colour changes grow.
Materials and character
Mulberry silk and zari are characteristic, while contemporary versions may use blended silk and different metallic yarn qualities. Fibre and zari claims require certification or trusted documentation.
Why it matters
A major Andhra Pradesh wedding silk whose visual scale and strong contrast make it particularly suited to ceremonial dressing.
