The story

How it is made
Fine cotton yarn is sized and woven into a firm, even ground. Traditional examples avoid heavy body motifs, concentrating colour, stripes and zari in the border and pallu.
Materials and character
Cotton is foundational, with zari or coloured yarn defining the edge. Silk-cotton and contemporary variations exist, so composition should be checked rather than inferred from shine.
