The story
Sambalpuri Bandha flourishes across weaving centres such as Sambalpur, Bargarh, Sonepur and Boudh. Its symbolic patterns and disciplined colour planning have made it a major expression of Odisha's cultural identity.
How it is made
Artisans mark, bind and dye yarn bundles in stages, then align the patterned yarns on the loom. Warp, weft or both may carry the resist design, producing motifs with the characteristic feathered edge of bandha.
Materials and character
Cotton and silk are both used. Yarn count, complexity of tying, colourfastness and alignment determine quality and weaving time.

A vibrant Odisha handloom that places ritual symbols and regional identity directly into the structure of the cloth.
